Data Centre Operator
Location: Birmingham
A vacancy exists within the IT Operations Centre for a Data Centre Operator, working 40 hours per week. The role will be based at our Northfield office in Birmingham. The hours for the role will be 7.30am-4pm, 3pm-11.30pm or 11.30pm-8am (including weekends) – dependent on availability within the department.
Job Purpose: Working closely with Desktop Support Technicians and the Operations Centre in Houston, you will perform essential tasks to facilitate the running of our Data Centre.
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensuring that back-ups of all critical system data are taken and securely stored
- Supervising network infrastructure; data servers and routers
- Monitoring site security via CCTV
- Carrying out audits on hardware and software installed in the Northfield facility
- Providing out of hours PC Support (evening & night shifts only)
- Conducting building checks to ensure that all PCs are turned off (evening & night shifts only)
- Patch cabling, as directed
Skills and Experience:
- An understanding of IT hardware, experience of Windows XP is an advantage
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to adhere to company procedures and deadlines
- The ability to work both alone and in a team
Special Conditions: The position will require a substantial amount of lifting and moving of reasonably heavy equipment, such as large monitors, so the successful applicant must be able to carry these without any problems.
